Okay, thanks Malone, at least I know I'm on the right track. It looks like I'll need to consult a medical dictionary:-)

Thanks, Brendan. Tidier solvers than me probably used the 'removed letters' properly … I wasn't very thorough, so don't know how helpful that would be.

I meant to self diagnose my many ailments! I jest, of course:-)

The NW corner is still looking pretty sparse so a hint for 1d or 1a would be appreciated.

Brendan, 1 A - one definition is 'For would-be joiner, bar' (bar as 'impediment') and the other is 'that might finish the frame'. The joiner isn't a carpenter, the frame is involved in a game. You'll see that the entry is thematic....

1 D. I have a famous wood, but haven't parsed it.

Thanks Malone,

I've never heard of that wood before but I see it's got Gnu in it so I'm pretty sure it's right. I got 1a from your hints as well and just got 4d so am making some headway.

After such a difficult Listener I haven't even started the EV yet!

Hi Brendan and Malone, 1d. is a word for antelopes (where the plural is the same as the single) inside a word for a branch, minus the last letter.

Could I get some help with 13a - It's one of six and I have RAT?

I've just hit another snag. It looked like one of the unclued words was going to Narcolepsy, but, having solved 3d, I've now got a T where the O would have gone.

Thanks, Mattrom.

Brendan, Narcolepsy is far too ordinary a disease! .Your T is correct.

Brendan, stick a letter in front of what you have and you'll see how it could be 'ranting'. Before that, it was a six-letter 'filibuster', with the initial letter dropped.
