Well guys, and lasses, I have found all the missing letters today, and filled the rudimentary grid. Now I have absolutely no idea what to do...

Jogamel, the missing spare/removed letters are all responsible for the unclued entries - well, the lack of them is! The one in the bottom left was what led me to the theme. If you stick a letter - one you've acquired - in there, you'd have something significant... Some of the unclued entries are pretty … unusual words.

Sorry, Kirky, my last post was maybe less clear than it could have been. The C doesn't go in the blank cell, it's entered earlier ('within the..). A fairly common word should spring to mind, a word referring distinctly to the missing/replaced C...

I wasn't able to get out for an "I" today. Is the puzzle good enough for me to bother venturing out tomorrow to track down a copy of the newspaper?

Bobbycollins, it's hard to say - everyone likes different puzzles, different styles etc. From my own point of view, this one was too straightforward for me - a lot of easy clues, a theme that didn't take too long to get and didn't need much in the way of finishing off. It was quite enjoyable while I was doing it, but it was disappointing to have it finished by 10 am!
