Brendan, I might rename Poster's Law (where an answer comes to the solver immediately after posting here) Brendan's Law. You might get your own entry in Chambers …

Yes, this was agreat puzzle - very neat (!).

The answers to my own questions make it look like I'm having a conversation with myself!

I agree it was a "neat" crossword with an intoxicating set of clues. I made a mistake at the end though, where I put "kir" instead of "raki" - my fault for being so abinthe minded:-)

I came rather late to this EV but enjoyed it. I like your "neat " and "intoxicating" comments, and your last one reminded me of the first cryptic clue I solved:

Sailor's in the drink (8)

I got it and thought "wow"

I hope you didnt put kir in the raki or anything else that Grunger did

Glad you enjoyed the puzzle, even if you were late getting to the bar. I'm sure that wasn't to save you buying a round?

PS Glad you liked my 'neat' - I was proud of it. The 'Sailor's in..' clue was excellent.

Hi Jigjag,

That is a good clue and congrats on getting it so early on.

As much as I'd like to claim credit for the "neat" pun, it was actually Malone who came up with it. For some reason absinthe always makes me think of Van Gogh and Oscar Wilde.

I can't say I've ever tried kir or raki, or kir in raki for that matter, but I don't think Grunger was overly impressed so I'll probably stick to the odd glass of claret and a Bailey's.

I'm about to start today's Inquisitor which I hope I'll have all done and dusted in time for tomorrow's EV.

Please accept my apologies for thanking Brendan for the "neat" reference when it should have been you. It was a clever idea of yours. I dont think I will be going to the bar for many weeks but I do have a large stock of drinks (mainly presents) that I have never opened, so I will have to try them, either separately or mixed.

Brendan

I just drink cheap wine, I dont think I would appreciate claret, with or without a Baileys in it, but I do like chocolate liqueurs, which gives me some variety. Also looking forward to the EV after 2 great ones.

Jigjag,

Thanks. I hope I didn't appear too 'short' with you with my neat remark! I liked it myself - but that was really only because I thought of it at the time, not later, which is what usually happens! I liked too that it led to Brendan's 'intoxicating' remark.

On the PU thread, there's discussion of new career opportunities for us...

Hi Jigjag,

I'm with you 100% on chocolate liqueurs. I remember, many years ago, reading Graham Greene's The Third Man, and there's a passage in it where a guy is drinking a glass of chocolate liqueur in a bar. It's so well described that I could actually taste the drink as I read it - either that or I've got synesthesia:-)
