Hi all. Fairly easy grid fill, only struggled with 44 and 46a.
Solved message and followed both instructions.
I see ‘what we need’, but like granama1 back at posts 22 and 23, I’m not sure why we do the second instruction or how to ‘avoid what we don’t want’?

I'm not sure what you mean, lumen, but to achieve what the diagonal calls for, the '????' must be .... and by barring off the letter that represents the '????' each time, we achieve the desired result.
