I am miles behind, as usual. But if anyone is passing I would really appreciate a hint for 34-35 (Object after gas gun etc). I know that an earlier post gave the hint that it was hyphenated, but it is still eluding
me. I thought I had filled in everything else correctly...but now I am wondering if I have made a mistake somewhere, as I can't find anything to fit the letters I have.

Like Samovar, I'm miles behind too. Got most of it done but is answer to 52-39 only 3 letters, not 4? (harking back to Ozzy's post, #42...)

Synonym for calm/soothe minus last letter, plus one-letter abbreviation for Sabbath.

Presume you were reading it as -(Synonym for) still denied last (of) Sabbath = 3 letter alternative...

As the starter of this thread, it's been great to see so much detailed discussion take place without any need for spoilers. It can be done! So, thank you to everyone. As it happened, I completed it without the need to come here - what a stunning construction. Some of the clues seemed impenetrable at first but entirely fair and concise on reflection. The only ? I have outstanding is the wordplay in the second half of 15-16. Could someone give me a hint please? Many thanks. Apologies if it's been covered but I didn't notice it going through the thread.

simond9x - word play - 5 letter word for position within - abbrev for 'time' replaced by 2 letrter abbrev for 'king and emperor'

5 letter word new to me - and after completing untold numbers of crosswords surprised 'king and emperor' was new to me also...

It's taken me most of the week but finally got there. Thought this was absolutely excellent.
