Foinaven, I haven't counted my cells - but if I hold my finished grid out in front of me, it looks reasonably like something you'd see on clothing worn by one of the ….

It's not the garment worn eccentrically, think slightly further up...

I think I can see a letter shaded in red. Still not sure about it though.
Can anyone answer my point about why there should be the two Ls in the extra letters?

The word the second L creates was someone's original name.

Now I see what the design is. As I said, I am not an expert in this thematic field and I was looking for the wrong example. From what other people say, the real name is significant. I will need to find out what it is, but now off to the pub

Thanks smartie. You’re smarter than me! I can now see that kalel is thematic.

This was a great puzzle. Thank you Twin. I remembered thoroughly enjoying Twin’s ‘How?’ puzzle (Doctor Who). As soon as a couple of the thematic item’s began to emerge, I felt reassured that it seemed likely Twin would enjoy this kind of theme. There were plentiful pdms in this and I do love a bit of art work.

I came on here after completing the grid to see if any of you lovely lot had offered any thoughts on the title and of course you had. Thank you. My best guess was that it might be in reference to Twin’s real name (his initials are CT). If he has middle initials of R & N that would be most serendipitous indeed.

Thanks Twin for a fantastic puzzle. I think you might well be my favourite setter.

I’ve finished the grid and got the message, but nothing seems to show in the grid yet. Do we have to spell out the short name or the 8 letter name or the 9 letter name, or am I barking up the wrong tree.
Can someone explain the wordplay for 35 and 34d. I have ‘I and S’ respectively as the centre letters, but according to my dictionary there is no such word for 34d, and if there is, where does the L come in?

Xij - if you follow the message very literally you will have four letters to colour in one colour. This will "trap" another thirty three squares to colour in another colour...
35a - First word is definition. Think of elections when considering way to allocate seats and then another word for stack.
34d - is a place name from the Bible The extra L is at the front of the first three letters (the unch is D) and the last two letters are a short form. Hope this helps!

OK, folks. Congratulations to all those of you who have worked out the highlighting and well done.

I, however, am in the "quietly fuming" and desperately grid-staring category of solvers. I have accurately solved all of the clues, including the 5 undefined but thematic. I also have the message HIGHLIGHT KALEL IN RED AND THIRTY-THREE CELLS IN YELLOW. I was expecting to come up with the chest-mounted emblem of the well known "underpants-outside-trousers" superhero from KRYPTON.

I've stared in vain for contiguous cells spelling out SUPERMAN, CLARK KENT and MAN OF STEEL. Now could some kind soul please put me out of my misery by explaining, without obfuscation, what I should be looking for and where it is in the grid?

Turast- colour every cell with a K, A, L or E in red. The rest will fall into place.
