Bit of a landmark for me. Completed unaided and sussed the endgame. Last one in was 33a, which after solving via the endgame was a bit of a doh! moment. Just two ?? clues which are oddly the first two across clues. Got the answers, know the extra letters but the parsing only partly happy with.

Enjoyed this enormously. Kept on thinking we'd made a mistake with one word in the message.

BUT what does the title mean?

Hi woodlouse, look at the letters in the title with those in the word you were originally unsure of with respect to the thematic answers rather than entries.

Hi granama1, look up (the last 4 letters of the answer + ie) in Chambers.

Thanks ginge. Not a term I was familiar with but makes perfect sense alongside the younger version. (:o)

Is there a reason for the extra L to appear twice, one in 26 and once in 32 or have I done something wrong?

I have done some shading with coloured pens, 44 cells in one colour and 33 in the other, and the second cells 'fit inside' the first. However, I have no idea what I am looking at, unless it is the garment which one of the unclued entries traditionally wears in an eccentric manner. Is this it?

I am way out of my comfort zone with this theme. I thought at first that there must be someone called THE KNOB but fortunately this was unnecessary.
