I've made a good start, spotted the author and guessed the place, but no idea what the message is from the corrections.
I think that 3d must have correct letter M, but can't see where it goes- suggestions please!
14ac would also be useful, thanks, and I have 40ac without seeing the wordplay at all

Hi Dylan,

The place is the only thing that is stumping me. M is correct for 3d, and is in the first word, for 14ac put the misprint at the front of a word in the clue and look it up in chambers - the word is Australian. The wordplay for 40ac is golf clubs in a note.

Golf clubs? I had Maori war-clubs.

The author and the final information from the correct letters will give you a work and thence a place.

HW7, golf clubs was a senior moment, it is indeed as you state.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I also meant to ask about the title of the puzzle - does this become meaningful once solved?

I should have kept reading until the penultimate line shouldn't I?

Thanks Gitto for confirming 40ac - it opened up the whole SW corner. However, I'm still stuck on word-play for 38ac, and corrected letters for 34-38ac. The message is still making no sense, even with the final two words complete.

38A - Corrected letter is M, and I think from is à. Flap is a noun, as in ‘to be in a...’

Re: correct letters instructions - the two parts are separated at 7D/8D.

Dylan re 34a. A word needs changing to indicate an anagram. There's only one word that can change really.

Hi, dylan,

Just finished.

I think the title could be read as Cha + T, both hinting at a key word in the thematic work.
