Bobby, Nelson's answer was probably much more helpful! I wrote mine about 20 minutes ago, didn't send it because it looked complicated - then decided to send it anyway as no-one else had...and then I saw Nelson's.

I’d appreciate some assistance with 10 and 11 d.
Got the theme, the title, the author, but still with some blank spaces!
I’m still looking for extra word with an “I”.

Hi pattis, both 10 & 11 down contain extra words.
10d. you're looking for a gas but not its chemical name, like will o' the wisp; wordplay includes the usual if as provided and 'n' as and contracted.
11d. Licence is the definition.

I can be more specific if you require.

Hi pattis.

10 down. In word play . . .

provided = if
and contracted = n (informal shortened version, as in rock 'n roll.)

companion formerly = fere

Reverse the first two parts inside the third to give FENFIRE.

Def = burning natural gas.

11 down.

The extra word is:business.

In word play . . .

charge = fee

ultimately per = r (last letter of per)

Put the first round the second and add . . .

head = ness

Def = licence.

In the puzzle there are three extra words that have an I in them.

Hi again pattis and nelson, apologies about the extra word in 10d, misread my scribblings on my worksheet.

hi ginge - I didn't see that you'd already posted a reply. For a while, I wondered if in 10d 'formerly' was an extra word.
I think all the extra words are very cunningly concealed.

Hi again nelson, no problem I realised that from the posting times. I no longer have the puzzle (having got it "accidentally" last weekend) and could only find my scribbled worksheet in the recycling which had an arrow opposite 10d but it related to the extra word from 7d.
Another consistently good puzzle from Ifor in my opinion.

Yes it was. Looked very daunting at first though!

Thanks Nelson. 10d is particularly frustrating as I had all the constituent parts but had failed to find a word to arrange them into!
