8d definition is "evasive" with a two letter cell

27a haven't managed to parse it but also has a two letter cell. Definition is "caldarium"

41 across has two omitted letters from the wordplay and also has a two letter cell

I have just stumbled onto the sunlit uplands of a full grid with 9 double letter cells. However I now appear to have three instances of double letter omissions from wordplay. I have (cold solved) SP (ID) ER for 17Ac, and two letter omissions in 23Down ( 3rd letter U and final letter E) & 41Ac (3rd letter E and 6th letter I). Can somebody guide me into a new golden age of improved understanding?

Thanks bobbyc. Grid done, now just need to copy and cut out and play jigsaws, will find out if I need to duplicate letters in bisected squares ie not those already split....

PS 27a is a tale type of episode with a 2 letter abbreviation in (not AG for attorney general which I tried to fit in for ages!

I also meant to ask for an explanation of "Perhaps bearing" as the definition for 35Ac, which I have assumed to be AGIO. According to my calculations there must be another letter involved somewhere, as there are 42 clues altogether and 38 accounted for by misprints and omissions, making 4 "normal" clues, which I have at 1,15,38 Ac & 34Dn.

17a is not 'spider', turast - look at one of the defs for 'gig' in Chambers (unclued letter 'a')
15 has an unclued 'u' - def 'drunk' and 'made distress signal' would be a 2nd def. giving the wordplay.

Hi turast,
35a is one of the normal clues, bear as in the stock exchange is also given as a verb in Chambers.
15a I have as "missing" a letter from wordplay confirmed from the crossing 8d.

...not sure about 35 but it appears to be a straight clue (perhaps a kind of &lit) with 'bearing perhaps' having something to do with bear market investments.

I am making steady progress but am stuck with 23d. I think it may have a double letter at the end, is that correct?

Thanks malone, I'm not finding anything in Chambers that fits the combination of letters I have, either I've mad a mistake somewhere or is it a name?
