I'm enjoying the logic of this puzzle, but now stuck.

I think I have 30d, but can't see where "gathering" is used.

Help/tips please for 6d, 7d

Hi dylan, look up gathering in Chambers, last definition.
6d. is a double definition
7d. inches as a verb, wordplay involves the usual letter for 50.

Endplay done - a long-time comfort read for me - but I'm stuck with 1A. A gentle nudge would be useful. None of the obvious 13-letter wordplay possibilities seem to yield anything.

Cockie. 1a is 2/3 anagram + 1/3 'sense' (roughly) if you get my ****.

7 - broadly speaking, what your L+R are (around L).

That was/is a very challenging solve. I am a little perplexed by "a six letter last name and five [/I]other examples". Why is other in italics? I have three or four 6 letter examples (one I cannot yet confirm) and 2 5 letter examples - why just "a six letter last name"?

Check the wiki entry for the 6 letter one (not as famous as the rest, in this category).
