smellyharry - 27 Not heard it before as containment but assumed it meant embodys (as in BRB for to body)
28 took it to mean 4 letter word for further - minus over - inside (nurses) introduction of skates and last 2 letters as synonym for 'for' ... although not showing in my synonym lists

I was helped by the fact that I am reading the sixth book at the moment! Still stuck on analysis of 27d - answer seems obvious but how to get to it?

tjc - I make it shifting (anagram indicator) “the + d” bodying (around) “a” for about.
I thought this was a good one and agree the NE corner was tricky. I made it harder by pencilling in the wrong figure in 7.
Got the theme very early after recognising the likely missing words in 14 and googling them in quotation marks with “series of novels”.
