Hi all,

I enjoyed this too, enough of a challenge without being too tricksy (whihc I was expecting to be honest given the "anniversary"!).
Bobbycollins, you can get two of the three missing letters from the two clues whose entries are shortened with no ambiguity. The third then comes from the puzzle's theme.

Iā€™m really struggling with solving clues this week. I have about 12 after several hours.
Trying to avoid reading the posts about the endgame.
Can someone help me with pointers for the two long down ones, 5 and 6?
Also 21d seems to lead to a well known fictional professor, but with 8 letters and only six spaces, this doesnā€™t seem to fit with the ā€˜remove three lettersā€™ in the rubric?

Hi lumen, 5 & 6 down are the two clues whose answers have the 3 letters removed. You're correct with 21d it forms one of the clashes ie some cells with clashes have more than 2 letters.

Hi again lumen, I didn't want to spoil things for you with too much information but if you do need another nudge ...

Thanks Ginge. I got 6d right away, still struggling with 5d, must be anagram or partial anagram but canā€™t see it yet, if it has to contain all three special letters.
Also can you confirm, as there are forty clues, apart from 5 and 6 down, we then have four clashing pairs, leaving thirty for the instructions.

Lumen, 5 D doesn't involve any anagram. You need a long word for 'claims', noun, with 'see me involved' leading to the insertion of a small word.

Yes, there are four clashing areas.
