Tough, but I enjoyed this. Just one quibble, I think 1across is two words?

I am struggling with the message given by the letters - could you give me the lengths of the first few words please? I have the first one as 7 but then i am lost.

Good morning. Just wondering how to choose the extra letters from the 2 entries. There is more than one option for them apart from the first letter of the second one?

don - the first three words are - 3,4,3.
tonynannini - the letters removed make a sum.

If I add them together, I get double the answer that I'm looking for ? Perhaps I'm looking for the wrong result?
