I have misprints in 13, 14, 27, 28, 38 and 4, 23, 29.
Are they correct?

2nd category 38,4, 7, 23,29 ,37

11d po = humourless + girl from "the old curiosity shop" reversed ...gives you the fertiliser

I started figuring out where synonyms for extra words go in the shaded cells.
Found a few more.

All finished, solution highlighted but, for completeness, any hints on the two clues that will "help" with the solution? It seems to be the wrong way round to be using the solution to try and find the clues!

Hi tomsdad, I suppose "they" act as confirmation; 5d & 24d when placed before the common word from the misprints.

Thanks ginge. I was looking for something that referred to the actual entry, not the anagram. A bit too obtuse for me I'm afraid!
