A travesty of what? I suppose it could be a travesty of justice or injustice. I expect us to win but look forward to seeing the handsome, stylish Italians.

I suppose Chiellini is an exception, but he speaks great English, despite never having lived here.

The chief sports editor of the Times wrote on their front page that Germany were England's "long-term neurosis". I think he must have meant nemesis.

I can't see the word play. I guessed the entry from the definition and the crossers. Also, 14a, "Lukewarm old rocker gets holy inside," has that ridiculous "pi" for holy that I recall we discussed before, malone.

Mathsprofrockstar, I've had far too many helpings of 'pi', I sigh every time it appears!
