1 A. Amuse pedant coming out of his shell (6).

Because it's in today's paper, I won't mention the answer.

PS I'd have enjoyed the clue even more if it had said 'her shell'.

I can't see the word play. I guessed the entry from the definition and the crossers. Also, 14a, "Lukewarm old rocker gets holy inside," has that ridiculous "pi" for holy that I recall we discussed before, malone.
