Grunger, thanks - that was accidental, but worked out quite well!

Jigjag, I forgot to add that Offa/Offer doesn't work at all for me - and probably many other English-speaking people. Don't let that stop you coming up with a clue, of course...

I enjoyed this typo in a Times letter of 15th July. Not too hard to spot near the end.

...Their mishandling of a child sex abuse allegation against the late bishop George Bell is one example. Despite their conceding that there was a rush to judgment, there has still been no pubic apology...

I see drawer used like that quite a bit, but it's clever enough that I'm not tired of it, as opposed to RA for artist.

I agree, but it's a kind of evolution of cluing that must make it hard for learners to get into cryptic crosswords.
In this sense I applaud the Times' "quick cryptic" as a beginners puzzle, but too often it relies on "conventional" clues that are learned rather than intuitive.

This is an old one but it needs repeating until the message gets through. On the BBC this evening I saw a programme about Robin Hood's Bay in which the presenter said: "It is difficult to underestimate the power of the sea".

This script was probably written by some public school, Oxbridge educated, person, seeing as it was the BBC.

Also, I saw in the Daily Telegraph this caption to a photograph: "Giles Coren, who's Jaguar was stolen..."
