I followed your advice this morning but I am afraid it did not work. On reaching the junction, I turned and walked forwards towards the bus stop with my right arm out. After 25 yards or so, the inevitable happened. A bus sped past, ignoring my signal, resulting in a 15 minute wait for the next one.
On returning home, I rang the bus company and spoke to Customer Services Adviser, Mr. Buss. I gave him the details and he asked if I was standing at the stop, facing the bus with my left arm out.
“Not exactly. I was walking in the direction of travel with my right arm out, as I have been advised, and I was very close to the stop.” I replied.
“Drivers only stop if there is an appropriate signal, and he must not have realised you were giving one.”
Well, I will give the driver an appropriate signal if it happens again.
