Anyone still unsure about the shading, you could look on the facebook page of Johannes deSilentio (Copenhagen). I wouldn't guarantee it, but looks good to me...

Thanks, meursault. I won't be entering this one as my solution is in quite a state, what with all the amendments and getting the clashes the right way round. I don't like using pencil and though I often make a copy of the grid first, this time I didn't bother.

Does the phrase “across the edge” mean horizontal or vertical entry for the final item? I have assumed the former to agree with the other thematic items.

That’s where I’ve put it unclued. Given that its height spans the two west of it, I’ve put it on the midline... horizontal line between A & the P. I’m not entirely convinced I’ve got this bit right. But it’s done and posted now.

I don’t think I’ll ever be brave enough to go straight in with a pen orson... wow! My trusty BIC 4 way pen with mechanical pencil is always atop my pile of red books. It’s particularly good with those teeny weeny cells in the inner rings of circular grids

unclued/merenz - Shouldn't it slightly overhang its Eastern neighbour? That's only possible going across the vertical bar.

You could be right drxx. I can persuade myself both ways. In the end I thought (as unclued did) that a horizontal entry was consistent with the other entries. I also persuaded myself that, if I were to put a cell around it so that it straddled the cells above and below, it would be in the right proximity for its neighbours to the west, south and east/south east.

I agree with you merenz - that’s where I put the final item. Perhaps the preamble should have said along rather than across the line.
drxx - did you use just two non clash cells as required? I think the only place that fits the thematic requirements is along the line between A and P even though it may not be absolutely accurate..........but the same could be said of the positioning of some of the other states!

I think we might be at cross purposes regarding vertical and horizontal - I've positioned it either side of (across?) the vertical bar between A+T and above those two letters.
I must admit, I didn't give it much thought.
