Finally I had the pdm after spotting where the latter half of 28 could go. The gaps were filled, my missing misprints emerged, the words appeared easily and I was thankful I’d paid attention in topology studies all those years ago. Thank goodness it wasn’t a Klein bottle. That would’ve been a non-orientable construction too far!

The low number of posts on the thread suggests this was relatively easy compared to most Listeners. And also meant I had to solve this with barely any hints from here. So I’ve prooved to myself I can do it solo. But I hope and trust you’ll all be back with lots of help next week ;-)

I concur. This was an easier one although I confused myself by deciding 1d should go in upside-down at one point. From the extra letters, the length of the phrase then makes finding it pretty easy. The significance of the title anyone?

rrobbo... tis a first name rather than a month. I presume the second word relates to the grid entry? Or possibly a property of the revealed words insofar as you cannot do this... maybe?

Have completed the grid except for 15 across and 20 across (I have all the letters, I think, for the latter). The answers I presume are connected with the phrase that runs diagonally, and I also see the point of august in the title.

Having failed at maths before turning to economics I have to confess to being hopelessly stuck on the two clues. Any hints welcome. My apologies for holding the class back, but this forum adds to the enjoyment.

Williamseal, both those clues split in two.

20 The first half is the fish (reversed as the clue says 'return') and a three letter word (abbreviation/acronym) for 'test'.

15. The first half equals 'locks' - if you've the last three letters, you should see what kind of 'locks', ie not for doors. The second half is defined in Chambers as a 'route or course taken by someone...' If you've completed the grid, the word will be there already.
