I've completed the crossword. Think the monument might have royal connections, but unsure and can't work out which 2 entries to highlight for the alternative location. Can anyone help please?

I thought that the "r" in the grey box might cryptically refer to royal and castle.

Confused by the contiguous letters though. Upper or lower case?

There is an obvious location in the same county, but I think it might be a red herring as I can't find a second one.
