Hi DJA, I hope I'm not stepping on your toes.
Charlesberg, yes : the abbreviation is of an obsolete regulator. Removing 8 letters from 'gala dad sues' gives the creator and also clarifies the regulator.
Catkin, the creator goes up in a perimeter column.

Oh, dear, I think that something has gone wrong. I have the hint, the four individuals, the path, the arena and the highlighted indivdual.

I don't have 30 across, which I've been wrestling with for the last day. Please can someone provide a hint? I have the following letters:

Hi Kitsune. Your letters are correct.
Chambers anagram gives two possibilities for 'a raids at', one of which you want. Onelook only gives the singular, ie first 7 letters.

Thank you, I think that I now see the light. I had been completely confused by the inclusion of apostolic, which I now assume is the anagram indicator. Checking Chambers, an apostle is defined as a champion or supporter of a new system, so I suppose that makes sense.

I don't think that's a correct interpretation. 'Assemble' denotes the anagram; 'apostolic' refers to Rome in many cases, as in apostolic see, apostolic succession, apostolic vicar - so I think that using 'apostolic office' is okay to describe a papal office.
