But very iffy interpretation.

Thanks for replying, Sunray. I have an E as the 4th letter in 2 Down, and am now thinking my 12 Across might be wrong. Is your A certain? (if you don't mind me asking)

regnant fits with bathos

for 12a i have dunt (hidden in clue) synonym of gid(sheep disease) L is extra

samovar, 12a is hidden with l extra.
So Regnant fits for 2d. But parsing?
