Hi, if the letter that is replaced by the fourth letter of the two-word theme phrase is indeed an E (and we need an E for the four-word phrase), then which E needs to be changed? I can see four possibilities, but making the necessary substitution doesn’t appear to give any real words. Help, please!

I changed FERMATE to FORMATE.

Thanks, unclued, I’d put in the singular (“fermata”), but of course the definition “pauses” is plural. Now I can get on with my life!
