Hi Elle, that's a relief! I had begun to wonder if my little Saturday-evening-at-a-loose-end joke had been a bad idea. I saw the word with one letter missing (I do it all the time!) and saw the funny side of it. Any excuse to play around with words, eh? yea but .... pigale still does not know the proper word in English! In French we say 'travestis' - that's what comes of trying to take a guess at translation!

On top of it, my 'very good and proper' dictionary does not give me the translation for that particular meaning of the word ! So please someone, put me out of my misery....

Chambers, Pigale, gives the definition of a transvestite as " a person who gets psychological gratification from wearing clothes typically worn by the opposite sex in other words, 'cross-dressing'!
