Hello again, Pigale!
No, I almost never read novels.
Yes, it is quiet. Jazzgirl and me were chatting about it earlier. Holidays, good weather, maybe?
Weekends are usually busy though, with the prize crosswords etc.

Do you actually have good weather?
Elle seemed to be talking of 'dull and humid' day, though warm.

Here, it has clouded over a little bit just now but it is still bright, with decent temps. At least it does not look like rain and I hope it will remain dry tomorrow because, being the longest day, it is the 'fete de la musique' day.

This means that just about everywhere in France there is music of some sort going in the street, usually a local band or a single musician (accordeon being the old favourite) .
The whole is often organised but cafes and dancing takes place outside their place, in the street.

In my village, there are 4 cafes/brasseries (+ a good restaurant, a kebab place and a pizzeria which does many other dishes apart from pizzas), so there is a wide choice of venues with different music style on offer.

All this is free but the cafes make their money on the drinks and snacks they sell.

On top of this, most villages also have a 'fanfare', and they will march through the town centre merrily blowing on their various brass instruments. All this makes for a joyful but noisy event starting from 3/4 pm and going on more or less until whatever time the cafe owners want, because they are granted an all-night permission on that day.

There you are for a bit of useless information!

Pigale, that is very interesting and new to me.
Sounds like a good time will be had by all.
Any "occasions" in Scotland are accompanied by strong drink, for some reason. Nice to hear of the civilities of France!

My weather has been cloudy for the last week but as long as there is no incessant rain, it is "good" weather.
I think Elle and those who live in the South (South to me is, anywhere further down than Edinburgh!) have had better weather. More sun, etc.
It does not look very bright at Royal Ascot today.
Her Majesty is dressed in a salmony shade of pink!

the weather here is muggy and we are expecting thunderstorms later. There are a lot of baby birds here at the moment and the Robin and Blue Tits have found the mealworm feeders and are gorging themselves the parents are probably relieved that they are feeding themselves. The dogs have given up and taken themselves to bed and I am going to read the book bout the street that James whistler Oscar Wilde and Singer Sargent all lived on in London

I'm afraid this is not my sort of colour AT ALL - in fact I loathe pink as far as clothes are concerned. Being of a mat complexion, I rarely wear pastel colours, but I have often seen Her Majesty wearing pale blue or pink coloured suits, dresses, and of course hats!

By the way, the 'civilities of France' do not exclude some participants indulging in heavy drinking - unfortunately the younger generations - yet they are not too much of a problem because the cafe owners (and other customers) soon put an end to any agro, and simply stop serving them alcohol or any other drink for that matter - they are just thrown out - for the benefit of everyone else.

I fail to understand these youngsters who need drinks (and sometimes drugs) to enjoy themselves. They seem so bored and yet they have most of their life ahead of them!
In the 60s, I'm sure, no, I know, we never got bored. It is so sad to see them waste their youth.

Hello, Doglet, I hope you miss the thunderstorms!
Well done, the young birds!
Now which street is this and who is/was Singer Sargent?
Pigale, I rarely wear pink, either.
Maybe I shall sound a bit contrary, but I firmly believe the present young generation are every bit as good as me and my lot were, back in the sixties.
And they know a lot more.
Still goodish weather here!
