Hello. Elle!
No. you are not that bad.
No point in pussy footing around something if you feel it should be addressed.
It has been very dreich here.
I walked as far as post office.
Had a birthday card to send to a soon to be teenager over in Norn Iron.

Hi Elle
Glad I made you laugh.
I've had several rants over the years. In one case I was told I should be more tolerant!

Elle, I am sorry that my referring you back to the original post "got your goat" but I thought it was the only way for you to see the clues, as previous requests for the poster to provide them had been ignored.

Let's forget it, Eirlys?
I appreciate now that you were only trying to help - I just didn't see it like that at the time! I felt you were the last straw!

Rusty

We say as nutty as a fruitcake but cupcakes generally don't have nuts in them!

Hi, Rusty!
I should perhaps I should think twice (or four or twenty ) times before wading in.....
although I think I am fairly calm most of the time, don't you think?

Like Rossim, I have heard of "as nutty as a fruitcake" meaning 'mad', but not 'cupcake' in that sense.
But looking it up in Chambers gives 'cupcake' as a small cake; an attractive woman ; a mad or eccentric person; or a term of endearment.
So Anne Bradford rules ok!

Did you see Peg's clue from the DM?
" Casual and dangerous in the east end (4)
Answered by Bernie as (h)airy.

So it's no longer just The Times coming out with "Londonisms".....!

Ah, Rossim, I get the fruitcake one now.
I just saw cupcake in Bradford's and I have not heard of them.
I am a bit behind the times up here!

Rossim,
Thanks for "redwood".
Pity it does not let us know where it came from.
Must explore!
My old mother-in-law used it regularly.
