Rusty- weren't you a Boy Scout? ("You can scout for boys if you like, I'm scouting for girls") Tins were supposed to be "burned, bashed and buried" !!
I know it seems like an imposition to have to wash out cans and bottles, but I put them beside the washing up and do them after that, in the same water (it's metered here). It doesn't take long to do. I have to wash "hard" plastic as well. You can get a can crusher, or just stamp on them. We aren't actually required to flatten them, thank goodness.
We've made an awful mess of this planet, I think it's good to try and do a tiny bit towards not wasting raw materials. Or food as Hugh F-W is pressing for.
Have a great day tomorrow, Elle. I dislike Auerbach's paintings but, as you've often said, it would be a dull old world if we all liked the same things.

Hi, Rusty!
I shall put our 'local'' Victoria and Albert Museum on my "to- do" list!
I think it is somewhere near the Science Museum and National History Museum - but could well be wrong? Cromwell Road, I think?
I believe that it is the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design, with about 5 million objects under its roof.
I'm wondering now how come I have never been there!
I shan't be around tomorrow until about teatime as I am off out early in the morning.....
Have a good day...... you could have a dander out and see where the V & A is to be situated? or will it be too far away from you?

The V & A is fab-ul-ous - difficult to chose where to start once there. Jewellery, ceramics, paintings, fashion , wow. Next time you meet a friend, Elle....

Good morning!
Rosalind, I was not a scout. I joined a cycling club in my youth. Great days. There's bits of my elbows and knees on roads all across Scotland!
I am actually not too bad at the recycling and do not often have tins, anyway. I draw the line at ironing newspapers before recycling, though!
Elle, my wee danders wont take me into town, which i avoid like the plague, usually. Would a street map of Croydon and/or London not be an idea to find places of interest? We have them up here. Actually, I got mine on Amazon! Was more than a penny, though!

Hello everyone, Hello Rusty !

A bit dull (no rain) here for a change !

Today is a Bank Holiday - 11th November, remembrance day; every town and village will have its own little ceremony by their War Memorial;

Here, the local Fanfare walk through the village followed by the Mayor, council members, Fire Brigade, Gendarmery, some school kids and whoever wants to follow - usually quite a lot of villagers.
We all congregate by the memorial and listen to a speach, raising the flag, fanfare playing before the minute of silence, then the Marseillaise and so on. ~Because it is on a small scale being a small village it is all the more moving. Some years, an old boy gets a decoration, but this is less and less often now.

I hope the weather will hold dry for everyone.

Hello, Pigale!
That sounds a very nice tradition that you have.
Do you wear the blue cornflower?
The "old boys" are fast disappearing!
We have a beacon lit today, on top of the hill where our war memorial is.
Our weather is dry, but the weather folk say Storm Abigail is coming!
"Be Aware" warnings issued!

Yes, I looked at BBC Weather Forecast yesterday and saw what is likely to come your way !

We do not wear any outward signs of any type, just very simple and sober. The Old Boys have disappeared from our village but since all wars are included in the ceremony, there are sometimes some younger men being decorated (unfortunately there is always some conflict or other somewhere in the world).

If you go out, make sure you don't fly away !

We were rewarded for ignoring the forecast with an entirely dry round of golf this morning - tomorrow morning looks OK too.

Hi Chrise,

In a way, I find it reassuring that forecasts are not always right - Nature still does as She decides !

Hi, Rusty!
I did not know that your "new" V & A was in town? when you said 'by the waterfront', I envisaged countryside for some reason! ( My Scottish Geography being even worse than that of my knowledge of England!)
Btw, you can find your way easily around London...all you need is an A to Z and a Tube map!
So you have your beacon lit today?
I was most impressed by the show of respect paid by commuters today....as 11 o'clock neared, there was an announcement at Victoria Station asking people to maintain the two minutes silence.........
Everything ground to a halt, about a hundred people standing completely still with their hands down by their sides, and eyes facing straight ahead - apart from just a few individuals ( who were either deaf, disrespectful or couldn't understand English!)
It was good to see!
