Hi again Elle,

I googled ADSL and found exactly what you say - for a lot of computer terminology, we go by the British/US terms.

However, the good news only lasted a couple of hours (typical) and I am now facing the same problems as before; hence there is something else wrong and I am going to study things for a couple of days and then call the man back - I am entitled to a two weeks garantee anyway.

It is very possible that in the daytime, there will be less problem than in the evening when everyone is at home and using the net. I know that living in the country means that we have weaker connection - so far anyhow since they are working to improve things.

We had brilliant sun for two hours this morning, with ground frost, then in came the clouds, wind, outbreaks of heavy rain etc... and quite chilly. We are due to remain with this weather until Saturday, when it seems that we are in for brilliant sunshine, temps up to 21/22C. We'll see.

Oh dear, Pigale , maybe it was too much to hope that all would be solved so quickly!
We have just been fitted with 'Smart' meters for gas and electricity - it is supposed (so the engineer said) to help the customer see where his/ her money is being spent and thus enable him/her to "save" on consumption?!
It also means that the company no longer have to send anyone out to read the meters - nor do we get an 'estimated' reading - as the meter readings are now referred directly back to 'base'.
Time will tell how effective this is.......

Morning Elle , and everyone !

This connection is driving me mad !!! I can't see myself waiting more than a day or so before I call him back !

We have 'Smart' meters being installed too; I have one for Water and it is true that the bills are exact readings, with nobody coming at a usually inconvenient time to take the said reading! I should be fitted an identical one for Electricity in the (near) future - so they tell me.

I don't know if it saves me any money on the water, I certainly don't run down to the basement to check how much water I have used to take my shower ! As to where the money goes, they can say anything they like, how can we check ?

It's progress ! Another way to create unemployment for the poor meter readers.

Weather chilly but brightish grey; at least no rain ...yet.

Hi, Pigale!
I hope your internet connection is holding up? Have you called the engineer back again ?
Sorry to be so late in replying- I've been busy today.
It's very cold here, like winter! Fortunately dry though today. Autumn seems to have by- passed us!
A quiet day tomorrow, but on Friday w e are going to a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. It's quite a drive way though, but a worthy cause so we shall certainly attend.
What have you been up to?

Hello Elle,

I have been tearing my hair off my head all day ! Could not get hold of anyone who could help today, so hopefully tomorrow I will be able to call the guy back, and he better come quick ! It's been terrible all afternoon and just now seems a little better.

I managed to cut some more of my hedge but soon stopped because I realized that the little bit I had cut last week was growing again - The Autumn rising of the sap - I should have known that it was too early. All to be done again!

Sunshine on the way for us but temps no higher than 19 (although in sun and protected from North-Easterly breeze it might reach 20/21) Don't know how long it will last though.

You are right to attend the coffee morning on Friday, it certainly is a worthy cause as you say.

Don't you go for The Ladies Who Lunch on Thursdays?

You are quite correct, Pigale, yes, I do normally meet friends for lunch on Thursdays but this isn't happening this week. We do occasionally give it amiss if something else crops up, and the next few weeks are a bit erratic for some of us.
I've just noticed the time - you will most probably be asleep by now as you are an hour ahead of us - and it is nearly midnight here!
We are having very dark mornings now.......it's still dark when I get up at 6am. I don't like that! it will be good when the clocks go back and we have a short time of lighter mornings again.
Good luck tomorrow with contacting the engineer I hope he manages a more permanent repair.

Hi pigale
I am very fortunate that my husband worked for IBM so he is able to sort most of my computer problems. Hope you are well.We are going to prune our Eucalyptus tree this weekend as it is now 30 feet high and getting rather a mess we had two blackbirds nests this year and all the birds love it. We have had everykind of weather this week but it should be dry for the Rugby tomorrow

Hello Doglet,

I am probably going to disgrace myself, but I am afraid I will be supporting Wales tomorrow ! I like their game, it is a much more fluent rugby than England who tends to kill the game, pushing the opponent to the fault etc - particularly if they don't feel strong.

France better come first out of this 1st series of games, otherwise, more than likely, we will have to face New Zealand in the next stage. We can beat them when our team is good (we have done so in the past) but I don't quite trust the 'Bleus' this year !

England has a tougher group to start with than France though.

Good luck with pruning the tree, we have had all kind of weather too but it seems to be settling to sunny and fresh. Not too bad.

Good Morning everyone,

What a lovely sunny (though fresh) morning it is here ! Hope you are all enjoying this nice weather too.

How is everyone ? and why is this thread so lifeless ? We worked so hard to keep it going, and now nobody seems interested in it any more.

Even the general Forum is not as lively as it used to be. Have you all gone to another Forum? Poor Noah and Ash must be disappointed after all the hard work they put into it !
