Update, Rusty!
Daughter just texted …...she is now back home safely from Amsterdam.
She seems to have had a good time!

Good morning, Elle!
Looks to be a fine start to the day, outside!
I have a couple of things to do today.
Car going into garage is one of them.
Nothing wrong with it....more of an experiment!
The Polhill centre seems to be fairly comprehensive.
I am sure there will be a large choice of plants for you.
I have heard of Sevenoaks, too!
The Open is under way at Portrush.
A fine morning there, too.

A Very Good morning to you, Rusty!
Have you already dropped off your car at the garage?
What "experiment" are you trying?
It is a dull and drizzly here....but supposedly will brighten and be sunny later.
I think we shall still head out to Polhill Garden Centre......
I am keen to get my plants!
We shall leave here about 11am., getting there in time for an early lunch!
And then we shall do our shopping.
We should be back about teatime...... to rescue the dog!

Hello, Elle!
Yes, my motor is at the garage now.
Ah! My experiment!
I am getting them to install a solar panel which charges the battery.
I rarely use my car and this, "hopefully", will keep battery charged up.
The short runs I do are a constant drain on the battery.
Hope you get your plants and your lunch!
PS. I've checked my paper and yesterday's answer was "shiver".
No idea why!

Good morning rusty
re shiver - how an Australian supposedly pronounces shaver - a youngster.
Online dictionary has : shiver synonyms :splinter, sliver, fragment, chip, shard, paring, shaving, shred, smithereen, particle, bit, piece - a chip off the old block !

Good afternoon, Cerasus!
Many thanks for trying to ease my bafflement!
I get the shiver/chip of the old block, but for the life of me, I can't see shaver rhyming with shiver.
But it's a few years since I had a chat with an Aussie!

I am puzzled too, rusty.
Chambers has the pronunciation as shi (as in/is) but an Aussie might pronounce shaver as shy ver which does not match with Chambers pronunciation. 13th edition also states it is 'now rare' !

Good evening, Rusty!
Finally, I am home again!
We have had a great day out at the Garden Centre......it did rain a little on the way there, but the afternoon has been bright and sunny.
We bought loads of plants, so a successful trip!
Now...please explain to me how a solar panel can charge your car battery?
What do you do , put it in the same position where you would put a sunroof?
How does it work to recharge the battery?
We have a similar problem to you in that we only use our car for relatively short (and infrequent) distances........and the car is forever "telling" us that the battery is low!
Do you have the car back with you now?
Now, I wonder will you get this before your arrives for his visit?

Good evening, Elle!
A nice breezy day here!
So, you'll be busy planting out your new plants!
The solar panel is roughly the size of an A4 sheet of paper.
It goes on either the front windscreen or on top of the dash, and is connected to the battery, either by the cigarette lighter, or by cable and crocodile clips, to the battery.
I have not got my car back yet, but the garage say it is fitted, and they are pleased with the way it is working.
I'll collect it tomorrow.
Here's my son....I'll be in touch later!

Hi, Rusty!
The plants are sat out on the patio for now...….we shall plant them tomorrow!
The fuchsias are for the wall baskets at the back of the house...and some of the bizzie lizzies are for the pots outside the front door.
We haven't decided on the location of the others yet...maybe the small flower beds? or perhaps the main garden?
Our garden is looking good this year!
Let us hope for enough rain to keep it that way.
I don't fully understand about the solar panel...but I hope it works!
Have you been watching the cycling? Any bears?
And I expect that you are your son are chatting whilst watching golf?
