Hello, Elle!
It was a good enough puzzle but not as good as last week's.
Just forget about the parses, there's always tomorrow!
And you like the Everyman.
Best wait until the builders are finished before the family visit.
I am sure they'll understand.
I have heard of Rosamund Pilcher, she's fairly well known.
I just finished my book about Evelyn Foster, but I did not really like it.
It was very hard for me to follow.

Hi elle

I only have cakes to do for tomorrow, not entertainment, which is just as well since that involves 24 smallish boys and Nerf guns. Luckily that is being run by professionals.
The children's father is 40 next Sunday- more cake!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, you are right...... I could do with a relaxing day tomorrow.
It has been a hectic week, what with one thing and another...
And whilst the house is "upside -down", it is no safe place for two young energetic small boys.
Next weekend we shall back to normal, and can have the family over then.
And of course on top of that, I had forgotten - as probably has my daughter, also - about the road closures, and resulting traffic problems......
We have the London Marathon tomorrow, which starts from Greenwich....
Driving between our homes would be very difficult.
I am thinking of watching the beginning of the Marathon and the Elite runners....
And will take out the dog later in the day.
And, of course, as you say, there is the Everyman to do!
Remind me about Evelyn Foster?
You have mentioned her before....killed in a taxi?

Hello, Ros!
Twenty -four small boys sounds a nightmare!
Our grandkids are now cutting down on the numbers of their "guests" at parties.
The days are past when the entire school class was invited , and the children are now limited to lower numbers of close friends!
But yes, there is a tendency to have "organised" parties.
BB had a football party. and our eldest grandson had a computer "do"!
Good luck with the cakes!

Hello, Elle!
You'll have the Marathon on Red Button, too.
There should be a choice of what/who to to watch on RB.
Eliud Kipchoge is the hot favourite for the Mens Race.
There is a big bike race on tomorrow, Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
It's a "Monument", one of the top five one-day classic bike races.
Evelyn Foster was found burning beside her own burnt out taxi, on the moors near Otterburn, and subsequently died.
The coroner said she was murdered, but no one was ever charged with her murder, and the policeman leading the investigation was convinced it was not murder.
That's what the book is about.
There are two or three books about the case.

I'm glad the marathon runners have got a cool, if not cold, day. Needless to say, my TV will be off!

elle, apparently, a nerf gun party isn't much use without quite a lot of participants, so this party is for 2 children (spreading the cost). Unfortunately, one of them is ill. The local infant's school is benefitting as well, because of having to hire a hall and "garden". Luckily all I have to do is take the cakes (in blue and orange, nerf colours, if you can imagine that!), though if my help is needed I ight stay. I have just finished washing up from yesterday- no hot water in the kitchen so not easy.

I read Rosamund Pilcher's book "The Shell Seekers" when it came out, which I enjoyed. I find some of hers a bit saccharine. She died in February this year.

Good morning, Elle!
Fine dry day here.
Hope it is the same for the marathon!

Here is a piece about Evelyn Foster.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-46764740

Unfortunately it is not entirely accurate, though.
It says Evelyn's "body was found". Wrong.
Evelyn was alive when found, and brought home from the moor.
At home she was tended by her local GP and her mother.
It also states that she "never returned home". Wrong.
She was taken home and died there the following day.
How can the BBC not check facts before they publish stuff!

Good morning, Rusty!
A dullish cool morning here as yet ........probably ideal for the London Marathon!
I haven't been further than the garden as yet.
I shall watch the starts of the Elite races and keep a general eye on what is happening, whilst I take a look at the crosswords!
We shall go for a walk this afternoon.
How about you?
Are you watching the Marathon?
Thank you for the piece about Evelyn Foster....
I had remembered correctly about the taxi part then......
I agree, it is a poor do that the BBC did not provide an accurate record of what happened.
Oh, the commentators are just talking about the women runners......

It seems as if an author reckons she has solved the mystery of Evelyn's death. Surely few would commit suicide that way in the days when they could have used the taxi's exhaust? A lot less painful.

Hello, Elle!
I am watching the elite women's race just now.
They have a good day for it.

Hello, Rosalind,
I've read two books on Evelyn's death and I think she was murdered.
She told her mother she had been attacked by an "awful man".
And she managed to describe him, briefly.
That's as close to a statement as they got from the dying girl.
The police chief who was investigating did not think it was murder although that was the verdict of the coroner's jury.
There is speculation that a condemned murderer whispered "Otterburn" or "ought to burn" after the chaplain asked him to confess his sins, just before they dropped the trapdoors on the gallows.
I don't believe that, at all, though.

Hi, Rusty!
A good well run Women's race...
Well done, Brigid Kosgei, on coming in first..... and Vivian Cheruiyot for her well fought second place.
The Men's race has been very exciting........only a mile to go now...and Kipchoge looks safe.....
Mo Farah and Callum Hawkins doing well.
I am in need of a coffee.....but am reluctant to leave the box!

Hello, Ros!
I missed your earlier post....
A "shared" party sounds a great idea!
I hope all goes well.
