Hi rusty,
Classical Latin isn't spoken anywhere, it has evolved into modern Romance languages such as Italian and Spanish. All languages evolve - new words, old words dropped out of use, pronounciation changes.
However, there are occasions when Latin is still spoken. The senior proctor of Oxford University has to give an address in Latin, and at the ceremony for awarding honorary degrees here (Encaenia), the speeches introducing each person is also in Latin. It must be quite difficult to describe the achievements of someone in the field of molecular biology, say, or robotics!

A remnant exists today in the crossed R on a prescription form, standing for recipere, (Latin for "take" in the imperative ie "take thou")

Can I just check before we go to Perth? The Loch of the Lowes with the ospreys is the one near Dunkeld, not the one that Google also found between Moffat and Selkirk?

Good morning, Rosalind!
Thank you for that!
I suppose too, with the end of the Roman Empire it would have gradually faded away.
I think the reason Latin is still used in Law is because it is a "dead" language, and the meanings of the words never change. The same with Medicine?
One of my pals is Finnish, and he thinks his language has a link with Hungarian, yet there is a huge distance between the two countries.
So I wonder how that happened!

There are unique structural similarities between Finnish and Hungarian, apparently, but it's probably just a coincidence.

Good morning, Rusty!
We have another lovely day here.
Blue sky and sunshine.
Cold but energising!
Sadly , definitely only two goslings remaining.
I hope they , at least, survive!
Ros has left little for me to tell you about the lapse of Latin usage.......she has explained it all very well and concisely.
You may like to read this, though, from the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

I am not happy with my Latin verbs book...I may explore Amazon to see if I can find a better.
Any plans for the day?

Hello, Chris!
Yes, the Loch of Lowes osprey site is near Dunkeld.
Are you off up to Perth this morning?

Hello, Chris!
Loch of the Lowes is close to Dunkeld.
There may well be another Lowes in the Borders, but the one you are after is at Dunkeld.
