Hello, Elle!
No exciting news, but she is going back to Munich soon and I told her about Sophie Scholl being executed there, and she is going to go and see the memorials to the White Rose.
Quite a coincidence, I only mentioned them yesterday!
And she has never heard of Nicola Benedetti!
So, I am trying to educate her !!!
No, I have the answer to a clue.
It is a two word answer and I can not parse the first word.
I'll maybe have a look at it later, after my tea, but I suspect the setter and me are on different wavelengths!

Hi, Rusty!
That will be interesting for Miss ATW to go to see the memorials to the White Rose!
Perhaps she will be able to take some photographs, if that is permitted?
And then you could see them.
My daughter used to go regularly to Germany, when working for her previous company.
I have just watched Eilidh Doyle fight for a qualifying place in the 400m Semi -Final.
She made it as a fastest loser!
Did you see the heat?

Good evening, Elle!
There is a walking tour of the memorials to the White Rose, in Munich.
https://www.destination-munich.com/white-rose-walking-tour.html
I'll forward this to my granddaughter.
What I did not know was that somehow, the final pamphlets of the White Rose found their way to Britain, and the RAF dropped them all over Germany until the end of the war.
Wasn't that great?
I did not see Eilidh, I have the cycling on just now.
Trotty has had to pull out through illness.

Hi, Rusty!
Wow, that is some walking tour...and what a memorial to the White Rose.
I had no idea that the memorials were on such a grand scale?
I should love to be able to go there...and follow the suggested route.
What brave young people!
And well done the RAF.
Eilidh ran well, but it was a close run thing to qualify.
I think she will do better in the Semis though.
Laura Muir has just (easily ) won her heat in the1500m for qualification for the next round.
How is the cycling going?
I'm sorry about Trotty; I know you were looking forward to watching her compete.
Back to the Athletics......

Hello, Elle!
Several years ago there was a poll in Germany for "best ever German", and Sophie and her brother, Hans, came 4th, ahead of folk like Beethoven and Einstein.
It looks a great tour.
When the RAF were on their bombing runs over Germany they dropped the White Rose pamphlets along with their bombs.
I was glad to see Sophie was buried beside her brother.
I am watching athletics now.
Good run by Eilidh, and comfortable for Laura.
Pity Jemma was not on form.
Trotty was feeling rough all week, so that maybe cost GB the gold in the final with Australia.

Hi, Rusty!
A good first day of athletics!
Kat Johnson -Thompson has won Gold in the Pentathlon...and the other Brit, Niamh Emerson, took the Silver.
Niamh just threw herself across the finishing line in the final race........ and just made it!
Well done to both!
Jess Ennis -Hill has been helping to commentate.
I like Jess!
Laura Muir is just about to start in the 3000m now......Eilish is running, too.......
Too much viewing for me...although I have thoroughly enjoyed it all!
And more tomorrow...and Sunday!

Update, Rusty!
Laura has just taken the Gold in the 3000m - what a race!
She left the German runner , her only serious competitor, far behind at the finish!
And Melissa Courtney took the Bronze!
I was on the edge of my seat, it was so exciting!
Did you watch the race?

Hello, Elle!
A very entertaining evening of athletics!
KTJ and Laura were the icing on the cake!
I like the BBC panel of experts, but I am not over the moon with Denise's hairstyle!
Other than that they were very good value!
I agree about too much viewing.
And I have the skiing tomorrow as well!

Hi, Rusty!
Perhaps Denise has been too busy with her fourth child to worry about her hair!
Apparently, at 45, she has relatively recently had a baby - she was talking about nappies at the start of the Athletics programme!
You are going to see Miss O'Hara and her mum and dad tomorrow , aren't you?
You will have to fit in your Sports viewing around your family visit!
Early walk tomorrow for me......
And then I can spend the rest of the day watching the Athletics!!
Well, maybe just another (quick) dog walk in the afternoon.....

Good afternoon, Rusty!
I hope you had a good time visiting your family this morning?
It has been chaotic here!
About 11.30 last night, I heard a dripping sound coming from the kitchen diner....
I went to investigate and water was dripping through the central light over the dining table....
The "dripping" rapidly turned into a cascade of water........and a huge portion of the ceiling came down!
The water didn't stop coming down, despite our turning off the indoor stopcock, so we resorted to turning off the water at the point outside in the street.
Lordy, what a mess!
I rang the Insurance company who sent out an emergency plumber ASAP.
The problem is that the flexible hose, attached to the hot tap on the bath, had perished!
The plumber capped the leak for the time being, and is coming back late this afternoon to replace both hot and cold hoses.
An emergency electrician is on his way now to ensure that the light and wiring will be safe.
I shall also have to get in touch with the builders about repairing the ceiling
I have contacted the Buildings Insurance to find out due procedures....what to do, and when etc.
I got to bed at 4.45am and was up again just before 8am!
My Goodness, what a night ...and following day!
