Good morning, Pigale!
Another brutal day ahead in the Alps?
I got a pleasant surprise yesterday discovering that the women's race, La Course, is being broadcast ahead of the last stage of Le Tour to Paris.
Now, in that race, you have a great chance of a French winner in Pauline Ferrand-Prevot?
I shall be cheering for Lizzie Armitstead, but if Lizzie can't win, I shall holler for Pauline!

Good Morning to you Rusty !

It certainly is a brutal one today - Pass St,Etienne de Cunes, no more flat route - temps likely to be in the 30s once more. No idea as to who is going to make a move today !

I don't really know enough about women cycling to support anyone, so I can watch it and remain open-minded.

I am desperately trying to remember the name of a very good woman cyclist we had not that long ago, and she kept on racing and winning even when she was 'mature' ! Do you know who I mean? Mind you it might just be on circuit, like in athletism).

Beryl Burton kept winning races into her sixties, I think - she was English, though.

The more I think about it, the more I feel she was not a 'road' cyclist, but rather a stadium speed cyclist - if you know what I mean !

I fancy it is the legendary Jeannie Longo?
She was still racing in her fifties at international level.
Chris mentioned the great Beryl Burton.
When it comes to an argument about who is/was the greatest British cyclist ever, I think I would go for Beryl.
She hammered the men as well as the women!
I seem to remember she caught the great Mike MacNamara (think it was Mike) in a time trial, offered him a sweet, and said "See you at the finish, Mike", and hammered past him.

Hi again, back from market !

Yes Rusty, you've got it, and everyone wondered when she was going to retire. Fantastic athlete .

It has become very close here, a lot of humidity in the air.; not too pleasant.

Hello Doglet,

It is not raining here, but there are thunder storms due to take place somewhere to the East of us - and this is enough to make for a humid heat - though luckily not too high temperatures.

Whether or not we are actually going to have some real rain here (I mean more than just a sprinkle) remains to be seen !

We've got rain here too! fairly heavy at present! Got to fit in another dog walk, so hope it lessens soon - not that the dog cares about the rain! (but I do!)

Thanks, Doglet - I hadn't noticed that the Anniversary Games coverage started on BBC3 first - I HAD seen that they are on BBC2 at 8pm this evening - all other dates and times over the w/e duly marked off!
