I've avoided looking in 'til now as I've been on highlights again (golf today). That shoelaces climb was spectacular! There's a climb in Majorca known as the "sea serpent", but I don't think it's as twisty as that one.

I know a road over the Apuan Alps from Massa to Castelnuovo di Gatfagnana that has lots of hairpins, but there are quite straight sections in between.

Yes, spectacular indeed and as I mentioned earlier to Rusty, certainly less dangerous to go up than to go down those lacets - can you imagine the technical descent it would be !

Hi, Pigale!
I am fine, thank you!
I'm only managing to see the highlights of the Tour as I'm busy playing catch up with friends after being somewhat of a recluse over the last fortnight!
Fantastic scenery as you say!

Hi, Rusty, how are you?
I've been out most of today - Thursday, "ladies who lunch" day! - back to normal now after the tennis! (we've had a lot to catch up on, having missed the last couple of weeks)
I've just briefly skimmed though all the cycling comments on the "chatty thread". Very complicated to the more-or-less uninitiated!
I think I have the jersey awards well sussed now after all your helpful explanations (thank you!)
I'm gradually becoming more au fait with the terminology - and the team members.
It's difficult though, I find, although the website links kindly sent to me have helped in the latter respect. A hard sport to grasp!
The scenery though is incredible - I could barely dare look at some of those 'drops'!
You won't have had much time for reading? Have you started "Father Flanagan" yet? How are you finding it?

Hello, Elle.
Cycling is not too hard too understand.
Great scenery too, if the commentators would shut up long enough for us to enjoy it.

Chris
I once travelled by coach from Palma de Mallorca to Puerto de Soller ( North of the island) in the 1960's . I think there were over 50 hairpin bends going up the Col de Soller. Maybe this is the "sea serpent" you mention.

That's the one, jazzy - we drove it once.

The road to Soller is also pretty windy, but it's now optional, as there's a new tunnel.

I am not up to date Chris.! I didn't know of the new tunnel. I've not been back to Mallorca since late 70's

We had a fern trip to Majorca last year. We stayed in Puerto Soller - still a lovely place.
