Thanks Rusty - I am not over-worried that he does not get in
touch for a few days normally, it's just that his house is at the
bottom of the village and has been known to suffer from flooding!

But as you say, he probably had a busy week-end socializing!
It's a small place and he knows everyone and everyone knows him!

Hope your weather has not been too bad either?

PS - the improving is going along nicely but, oh! so slowly!
I think age has a lot to do with slow recovery too!

On Wednesday I am going for the second stent, and I was hoping
to be almost 100% better, but I gather 85% will have to do!

Hello, Elle!
Is all well in the North?
I think Everyman is a very popular puzzle.
I'm a stick in the mud, I only do The Times crossword, but I seem to remember Everyman being on the easier side.
I actually had a look at the Jumbo yesterday before I passed it on to my neighbour. (She takes the puzzle pages to work for her patients.) but I resisted having a go.
I used to find it a bit of a slog.
I certainly do not envy you with the fireworks pests!
All quiet here now.

Hello, Pigale!
Could you perhaps email to him, a friendly message?
I think if there was a problem it would be on the News.
I had a look at BBC North West site, and there is nothing out of the ordinary being reported.
We have had a good bit of rain but no problems with roads or anything.
Very best wishes for Wednesday's op, Pigale!
You will soon be running up and down to the village again!

Hello, Pigale!
I am sorry...I did not see your post earlier...I must have been typing myself, as you sent it!
I don't think your friend has had weather much different from mine.
I looked up his local forecast, and he appears to have had heavy rain, but nothing too intensive.
Maybe he has trouble with his phone connection and cannot Skype or email?
Have you tried getting in touch with him from your end?
Hopefully, it is nothing to worry about and you will hear from him tomorrow.
I am glad you are improving!

Yes, I have emailed him both yesterday and today - I send him
the week-end crosswords, so as usual put a little note with it.
I am sure all is OK, thank you for checking though Rusty!
Google did not show anything special but his weather forecast did show a lot of rain.

Yes, I am indeed looking forward to running up and down that
hill into town again - at present, I need a walking stick out of the
house!

Must be patient!!!!!

Just had word from my friends by mail and Skype was playing up
apparently - So we should speak tomorrow!
I feel relieved now, particularly after all this rain!

Hello Elle

Did you solve the clever cricket clue, or do you want the answer or parsing?

My daughter was home for the weekend with her friend from London. I pointed out to her friend the problem with piper/paper but she claims to pronounce them differently, but they sound exactly the same to me. The mice/mace point was lost on her as she has never heard of mace.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, thank you, all is "quiet on the (north-) western front"!
One Northern family member (in his forties) has very recently had a pace-maker fitted, but he is doing well.
These days the operation is over very quickly, and the patient is soon out and about again!
I am now reading the second of my "Enzo File" series.......
I am finding that I prefer Peter May's "stand -alone" books though.
How are you going with your browsing for books as prospective Christmas presents? (for yourself!)
Fireworks are still phut-phutting away!

Our posts crossed again, Pigale!
You'll find mine somewhere if you scroll down!

Hello, Pigale!
Ah, there you go!
I have never used Skype but I understand it is great for keeping in touch.
I'm glad you feel better now that he has been in touch!
