Hi, Rusty!
I am just eating a nectarine....... and very nice and juicy it is, too!
You would like them - a very tasty fruit...better (I think) than peaches.
I have just got my new TV guide, for the weekend and next week.....
But I cannot find any mention of Day One of the British Athletics Championships that are being held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham this coming weekend?
BBC2 is showing the Seventh Diamond League in Paris on Sunday afternoon......immediately followed by Day TWO ( the final day) of the British Championships.
But where - oh - where is Day ONE?
Is this not being shown on the television?
I swear I have searched diligently!

Hello, Elle!
I have heard of nectarines but I would not know one!
Now, I am not up on BBC weekend programming, but I'll have a look at what is on my Sky TV programming schedule.
(I am making a kale smoothie just now. All go up here!)
Could they be on EuroSport, though I suspect it will be tennis and the French cycling championships?
Speaking of cycling, there is a big article in The Times today about Victoria Pendleton.
She has depression. Brought on, they think, by her failed attempt to climb Everest.
They think lack of oxygen caused it.
A blooming shame for her, I think.

Hello, Elle!
I am afraid that your idea of "searching diligently" and mine are somewhat askew!
Day 1 of the Championships are on BBC RED BUTTON on Saturday afternoon!
Maybe these nectarines are going to your head?

Hi, Rusty!
I tried my hardest........truly!
However was I to know that The Championships are to be shown on the Red Button?
I did search thoroughly......
I poured over the TV Guide, going from one programme to another........no sign of any appropriate transmission........and the TV Guide doesn't list any Red Button programmes, so I had no reference to such.
I even googled the Championships, but didn't find any mention of its being shown on the RB.
I honestly did my ( okay, possibly limited) best!!
However........I am eternally grateful to you for coming up with the answer!
You are very kind......and patient!
It is much appreciated!
Now, Victoria........yes, I have been reading about her on the computer.
Lack of oxygen can cause depression, can't it?... but fortunately, it sounds as though the condition will simply wear off?
I hope she soon recovers.
Apparently, having mastered being a professional jockey, she now fancies trying equestrianism , or clay pigeon shooting next.
( There is a bit of a difference! there!)

Hello, Elle!
Is there not a programme guide in your TV?
On mine I can go 7 days ahead to find out whats on.
Think Sky call it EPG?
What I did to find out about Red Button, was select "text" on a BBC channel, go to "Sport", and in there, there around 20 pages of upcoming sport on BBC.
Very simple!
Regarding Victoria, I think she should take a page out of Trotty's book and start a family.
Trotty thinks being Albie's Mum is just wonderful!
Victoria has always been a bit "flakey", in spite of being Olympic and multiple World Championships medals winner.
Time for her to settle down.

Hi, Rusty!
I think perhaps my TV is not up-to-date enough to accommodate all these finessed details?
Yes, I have a Menu button, can access "Sport" and can be told what will be showing, but it gives no indication as to which BBC channel it will be on, nor gives mention of the Red Button programmes, ahead of time.
However, I can check on the Red Button on the day itself.
Most of the time, the TV set suffices very well for what is required of it......
I very rarely watch it, apart from Athletics and tennis......and Eggheads!
Oh.....and "Casualty"....and just the occasional programme that might arouse my interest.
I rather think it's time for an ice cream......!

Hello, Elle!
Warmest day of the year I think!
Do you not get "text" on your BBC channels?
Go to a BBC channel and either press "text" or the red button to access the text service.
It has News, Weather, Sport, and several other things on it.
I use it several times a day.
That's where I found the athletics info.
An ice cream sounds the biz!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, that's right , Rusty...that is what I did. but I don't get specific info telling me that such a programme will be shown in a few days time on the RB.
I can only discover that on the day itself.
Perhaps the television is too old for such niceties?
Anyway, I now know anyway, thanks to you!
I have finally finished my crossword - after leaving it for a spell and then going back to it!
I think I have actually filled in all answers, plus parsing them, for once!
Quite a nice puzzle, didn't you think?
I especially liked 15a: job lot, and 13a: rascally.
These just appealed to me!
11a: "Under Milk Wood" - the Dylan Thomas play - was a bit strange?
Is your son visiting you today?

If you Google 'Sport on BBC' and follow the link, with patience, you will get a schedule of forthcoming sport on BBC, including Red Button. Good luck!

Hello, Elle!
I thought "Under Milk Wood" was a nice clue?
To exploit is to "milk"
To exploit insufficiently is to "under milk".
The golf club is a "wood"
I had heard of the play vaguely but did not know who wrote it.
Now, good tip from Kenyatta!
This is a blow by blow account of how I find the BBC Sport schedule!
First, select any BBC channel.
Now, press either "text" button or "red" button on your remote control.
A menu will appear on screen.
Select "Sport Index".
Then, select "Headlines".
Now, select "Sport schedules on BBC Television"
This takes you into 21 pages of upcoming programmes on all BBC Channels plus Red Button transmissions, for the next few days.
Hopefully that is the same system you have?
I think yes my son will be here later.
I see his van outside his house.
