Hello Elle,

I think it might freeze overnight, but rest assured: I have no
intention whatsoever to go out until perhaps around 3.30pm
tomorrow afternoon - only from the door to the gate will be
walking, therest will be by car - I need to replace some petrol and
a bottle of gas for the heaters - I think it won't be frozen by then!

Sub-zero temps are not for next week, but rather for Thursday
and Friday this week! Well, with minus 8C in the night, I shall
be tucked in my warm bed!!!

joke apart, I do feel for the poor people who live in the streets
with such weather - The 'carers' do a grand job trying to get
them to come to a shelter, if only overnight, but you know, some
just don't want to go! It has become their way of life, and for
many of them, the situation was brought upon through no
fault of their own (it could be a nasty broken marriage, losing
one's job, etc...)

Hello, Elle!
I am not one for haircuts really.
And I do not mind the ASDA girls having a pop.
All good fun!
I get on very well with them.
Your folk next door seems to be getting stuck into whatever it is they are up to!
Most of our snow has gone.
But more is on the way, they say!

Hello, Pigale!
You are wise staying home in the warm!
Best place for you!
I agree with you about the homeless folk.
I feel pity for them.
We do not know what tragedy or event brought them to be homeless.
It could happen to many of us.
A shame.

Hi, Rusty!
My BBC local weather page has totally changed since this morning!
I was very pleased with the previous layout and found the forecasts to be reasonably accurate.
Also, one could tie the weather down to the immediate locality.
But this new page is absolutely chaotic!
I am not liking it at all....if this is to be the new regular format, I shall have to look elsewhere for the weather predictions!
I shall have to investigate what is on offer.......
Oh dear! What a nuisance!
Btw, I watched "Eggheads" earlier....
There was a question about "The Kelpies" in Falkirk!

Hello, Pigale!
Our family help support the local Crisis branches - there is one in London and a nearer one in Croydon.
The staff there do a a lot of good work...not only at Christmas time when there is a always a special concerted effort...but throughout the year, too.

Hello, Elle!
My BBC Weather page changed last week (for the worse!).
There are quite a few weather forecast sites.
I use Accuweather, but I preferred the BBC one.
I was able to personalise it, and I do not think that is possible with this site.
Yes, it is a blooming nuisance when they change a perfectly good site for an inferior one!
The Kelpies at Falkirk?
I know nothing about them, I'm afraid!
How on earth did Falkirk get kelpies, I wonder.
Did you know "Falkirk" translates to English as "speckled church"?

Hello Elle,

That is very good of you and family helping support the local Crisis
branches -
We have no homeless around here, but in the big towns, there
are plenty and volunteers do all they can.
As I said to Rusty though, some homeless do not want to get
inside a 'foyer' for warmth, food and a bed for the night; they
prefer to remain outside in their makeshift protection.

I remember when a student in the Latin Quarter, we were a group
of about 6 or 7 of us who regularly met under one of the bridges
by the river Seine - There, week after week we saw the same man
(looking elderly to us, but not that much really)
We eventually got to talk to him and he was remarkably well
spoken. Of course, in those days (1966/67) we did not call
these people 'homeless', but rather 'tramp', even if it was not
meant nastily.
Well our 'tramp' told us that he used to be a Doctor in one of
the most best Paris hospitals at the time, and one day, between
the pressures at home (demanding wife and entertaining a lot)
and the pressures at work, he just decided that enough was $
enough, and took to the street! He just managed to get a note
almost anonymously to his wife telling her not to worry but not
to look for him!
Of course, in a large city like Paris or London, it is easy to 'get
lost' amongst the crowd, particularly if you change area, type
of clothings etc... But he was very clever and extremely interesting
to us 16-18 years old!

Hello, Pigale.
I have spoken to many folk living on the streets and I can endorse what you say.
Many are very well educated, and had good jobs, but something in their lives has caused them to take to the streets.
I often wondered how they ended up.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I have used Accuweather in the past - I think we first used that, when our elder daughter lived in the States.
But I have preferred the BBC forecast for many years, as we could key in our immediate local area and get a specific accurate forecast for that.
As you say...why mend what isn't broken?

But back to helping the homeless......
When we were younger, a group us would collect clothes and bedding - and take food and warm drinks - and go out from our church distributing such among those living on the streets.
It was sad and heartbreaking - albeit often very interesting- hearing how their lives had ended up like that........

We are glad to be kept informed of Crisis' work, Pigale, even though we no longer do anything more active than contribute in a monetary sense.
( My younger daughter , too, before she had young children used to work with the homeless over Christmas.)

Hello, Elle!
I read somewhere today that BBC have changed their weather forecast supplier, and also changed their website, and that the new site did not impress most folk.
It was much better left as it was.
I am getting reminders every time I log into my Google calendar that it is going to be upgraded and "click here" to change to it.
It is not as good as the present one, the "classic" calendar, they call it.
it is awful to hear of a homeless person being found dead after a very cold night.
That should not happen to anyone.
What the solution is, I do not know.
