Hello, Elle!
It is mild here, too, but definitely not Summer!
You are gradually getting through your Christmas tasks?
Me too!
Just have to visit butcher tomorrow for my steak pie!
Saturday could be hectic at the butcher, so I'm for tomorrow!
I noticed TESCO very busy today.
Yes, I have completed my puzzle.
A very good one, today.
Congrats to the setter!
5a, 7d, and 21d, are new words to me.
This learning never ends!

Hi, Rusty!
Hey, we have a tennis clue!
"Break (ing) point" in 11d!
How exciting! What a pleasant change from cricket or golf!!
This has quite made my day!
I also like ballbearing/ periwinkle/ and ectopia.
I am stuck on four....
7d: Chicken, I note, provided in cheap eatery (7)
C?I?I?F
17d: Seek to protect birds heading for tricky take off (8)
?R?V????
26a: "Sweet" summarised daughter brought in indisposed (7,4)
??O?T?D / ?I?K
28a: In nomad's dwelling, leave rolls for other food (6)
??G?R?
The last three interconnect.
I have no ideas?
Well done on completing the puzzle!

Hello, Elle!
7, is a new word for me, "Caitiff"
The cheap eatery is a "caff", I note is "I ti".
A "caitiff" is a "mean, despicable fellow", does that mean "chicken"?
17, Is "Travesty", a take off.
Seek is "try", birds "Aves", heading for "t"ricky.
26, is "spotted dick". Summarised is "potted", "d" for daughter, disposed is "sick".
28, A nomad could live in a "yurt", with leave "go", rolling or reversed.
That's what I make of them Elle, let me know if they are fine with you?

Hi elle

hint for 28 ac, a nomad's dwelling is a yurt! I only know that because I was going to build one!

26 ac Roly poly!! You must have had this at school, with custard!

7d rare word for cowardly. However, if you think what the cheap eatery could be, you could probably look it up

Just returned from having a new crown fitted, a pretty uncomfortable 15 mins but getting better now. The old one had a large amount of decay underneath, ignored by previous dentist as he didn't like crowns! All done until June.

Hi, Rusty!
Wow, Rusty, that is very clever of you!
Yes, I can see the correlations now that you have explained them to me...but would never have got there on my own!
No, I personally wouldn't have said that "mean, despicable" meant "chicken" - to me, "chicken" is "cowardly"?
Nor did I think that "seek" means "try", but you and Anne B do!
26 across is clever, but I couldn't do it!
I didn't know a nomad lives in a "yurt", so I have learned something new!
Whew!
I think I need a coffee!
Is your son visiting this evening?
I have only just realised that today is Thursday!

Hello, Ros!
"Caitliff" is not given as give "cowardly" (chicken) in my Chambers?
As Rusty said, it says "mean, despicable fellow".
Hence the quibble......
Which dictionary are you using?
I hope your new crown soon settles down - you could always go back and have a slight adjustment, if you are not comfortable with it by tomorrow?
But hopefully, I expect it just feels strange with being "new".

Hello, Elle!
I have it at the back of my mind that Collins is the dictionary that The Times uses.
Maybe "caitiff" is "chicken" in that one?
A new word to me!
It was a good puzzle though, and we are learning new words and meanings.
Chambers gives "try" under "seek", too.
I knew a "yurt" though!
Yes, I am expecting my son at six.
He walks here....only lives 200 yards away!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, it is good that your son lives so close!
Our younger daughter lives the nearest to us, but even that is thirty or so minutes drive away.
It is possible to get there by train though, if needs be, which is handy as I do not drive.
She has been working from home all this week (and the end of last) as the office is without heating!
I am not sure of the technical problem...... but the staff was advised to stay warm!
( I wonder if the office heating is serviced by BG.....?
No, I should not say that .......as BG did come up trumps in the end!)
I have been reading.......
No "Eggheads" in the run up to Christmas!

Hello, Elle!
Had a good chat with my son!
He is coming back on Saturday.
My oldest son is a 7 minute drive away, too.
So all the family are handy.
Seems strange your daughter's office has not had the heating fixed?
My "Italian Chapel" arrived today.
It is almost new, I'd say.
Did you order any more of Miss Peckwitt's books?
