Chris, I do understand Elle, she has queried the meaning before with me.
I neither know nor care what "&lit" means, as I have told Elle previously.
I do one simple crossword each day in The Times, Monday to Saturday, and have no need to know pretentious terms so solve them.

Not pretentious, rusty. It's useful to be able to describe different sorts of clues - anagram, charade, double definition, cryptic definition, hidden, etc. - and "&lit" is just another description (admittedly a less common type).

Maybe put your crossword queries on the main forum Elle instead of on the chat thread ?

Chris, I am really not interested in what clues are called.
Some folk are, but not me.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, sorry........I just got carried away!
I was so excited by my breakthrough, that I just had to share it with you, despite your having said you didn't want/ need to put "titles" to clues!
Did you watch any of the Women's tennis at Linz?
Most of the names were completely unfamiliar to me?
I'm getting behind since EuroSport Player was out of action for so long!
It seems to be functioning all right now, though!
Have you solved the mystery of Miss La Bamba's car being outside her house, whilst she herself is at work?

Thank you , Cerasus, for your confirmation.
It was good of you to help.

Hello, Chris!
It's this need to dot my "i"s and cross my "t"s!
What is a charade clue, please?
(You mentioned that?)

Hi elle
It's a clue that has a definition , then other bits that build up the word (like in the game "Charades"). Here's an example (from yesterday's Guardian
Illegally take sailor over Channel (6)

Hello, Elle!
You should be carried away alright!
Anyway, this may help you a wee bit if I can successfully paste it.

I did not recognise any of the players at Linz.
Maybe a more minor tournament?
I managed to forget all about a horse I wanted to see run at Newmarket, this afternoon.
I have not been in touch with La Bamba today, but shall do so soon.

Hello, Elle!
This is a nice short film I found, not about clues, but about a setter.

Hope it works, I am not very good at these things!
