Hi Chris
I hope you read this amongst all the posts.....Thank you for the link (it worked fine here ) It's a very long time since I last listened to that. My husband had it on a cassette (copied from the "wireless" ) along with Hancock and others. The last line from "Grantchester" .....brilliant !

Good morning, Rusty!
A lovely morning! Chilly but sunny!
Did you deliver Miss L-B to work on time?
Now.......I did ask a few folk in the park "How goes the enemy?"
But not a single one of them told me the time.......
Don't forget to watch/ listen to Peter Sellers on "Balham; Gateway to the South" if you didn't do so last night.
It is well worth a listen....very funny!
I have nothing outstanding I should do today.......not until granddaughter and brother come for their tea after school!
I shall look forward to that!
How about you?

Hello, Chris!
I don't know why your link wouldn't work, yesterday.....
Fortunately, I knew to what you were referring, as I had heard it before
However, I have now tried the link again...and this time it is working fine!
I had a few chuckles as usual!
Thank you for reminding me about that.

hi Elle
It's a long time since I heard "How's the enemy?" It was frequently muttered by my Dad (he did not expect any answers ) when we ran a hotel. There were always deadlines to meet (quite stressful at times)

Good morning, Elle!
Miss La Bamba has been safely delivered to work.
She was looking very tricksy in her office wear!
Well, Elle, I am surprised none of your buddies know "the enemy"!
It is reasonably well known, especially in crosswordland.
I have no plans, other than to be on standby to collect the young one from work, but she thinks her Dad will manage.
Finished my puzzle.
A good one today.
One "East End" clue threw me for a while (well done, setter!) But I eventually figured it was the letter (Eas)t, I needed, not a Cockney word!

Hi, Rusty!
Well done on delivering the working girl!
(I think "Working Girl" was a film staring Melanie Griffiths?)
Yes, I too have found today's crossword a good one!
I cannot believe the contrast (to me) from yesterday's puzzle.
I have not only filled in all the answers, I have parses for each and every one too!
This perhaps is a "first" for me?
My favourites were 9a, 7d ,11a and 19a , I think.
I especially liked "Californium"!
Yes 19d - "tsunami" - was a good one.
You will have liked - and found easy - the golf ones, especially with the hound being a beagle, like your son's dog!
Now to cast an eye on the QC........

I wonder, JG, if the expression "How is the enemy?" might be more familiar to the older generations?
You and Chris both said that your father/ father- in law, respectively, used it.
I perhaps did not consult anyone "old enough"!

You're probably right about the age thing, elle. The only other person I remember saying it was my grandfather (occasionally, not frequently, though!)

I sometimes think my mother lived in cliches, and certainly used "How's the enemy", though she did expect an answer! Difficult to consult her, thoughm she'd be 101!

Hello, Elle!
Well done on your solving and parsing!
My favourite was "ear p lug".
Well done, setter!
This is me being picky, but I think "familiar" is superfluous in 8d?
I have "Mrs" for 27. Sounds like "misses"?
What do reckon?
You mentioned golf.
I have the golf on, from Italy, and there is a player, Molinari, who looks very like Dean Martin, to me!
