One of the first words that "B&F" attempted to explain was "pear-shaped", I remember.

The falls are in Glenisla, on the River Isla, in Angus.
Dundee is in the County of Angus.
Forfar is the county town of Angus, although Dundee is a lot bigger. The original name of Angus was Forfarshire.
I think Forfarshire was the name of a well known ship.
Possibly the one that Grace Darling was involved with?
It would take me around 45 minutes driving to the falls.
And there are seldom people there.
The falls are as far up river as the salmon can get.
Did you see the reference to the caves?
That will be where the taghairm goes on!
I get a Tweet from OED every day.
Usually something interesting!

My wife and I hiked on Lake Superior last summer (Upper Peninsula of Michigan) and along some of the rivers that flow into it, on which there are hundreds of waterfalls. My favorites were Canyon Falls and the series of them along the Presque Isle and Black rivers- breathtaking.

They are stunning, Aristo!
Hundreds of them!
Something mesmerising about waterfalls.
Chris, are the falls in your neck of the woods known as forces, or is my geography askew?

You always have more of everything in the States, aristo!

Do you remember the waterfall near the end of "A new leaf" (Walter Matthau)? Do you know what that river was?

Yes rusty, often Force (sometimes Foss) in most of Northern England - derived from Norse, I expect.

Actually, not one of the better places, jazzy. I know a waterfall on Whernside with far more - species and individuals.
