I tried Googling to find out what happens/ has happened to the unfertilised egg, but couldn't find anything......
So I have emailed the Centre to see if they can tell me anything relevant?
I am wondering also what happens to the empty shells?
It may be that some informative person may help us out here.......?

I discovered that occasionally they are removed to see if the experts can find out why they did not hatch.
I am not sure about the Loch eggs though.
The reason there is no sound on the loch video, is there is something wrong with the mic at the nest and they are not allowed to disturb the nesting birds to fix it. (Scots law).
So, possibly not allowed to take the unhatched egg?
Yet, they have tagged the chicks at the nest, so my law theory is debatable!

I read that unhatched eggs sometimes get buried under the nest debris - andi think that if anyone had moved it for research purposes they would have to keep quiet about it. Seems many, many buildings have unsafe cladding but the removal of one dud osprey eggs might result in prosecution and a large fine.
I just watched a marvellous video of a woman saving the life of an exhausted osprey which was floating helplessly on the water - it clambered onto an oar she held out and onto her hands- which bled but she held on and eventually they got the bird to land- where it flew off!
I had my chimney swept yesterday- the one that caught fire. 2 bin bags of stuff, and that's after what the firemen took away. It seems my previous sweep had not done anything like a proper job. Apparently anyone can set up as a sweep, there are no regulations whatsoever. These chaps really worked hard and were amazed at what came down.

That is my understanding, too.
The unhatched egg is "absorbed" into the nest.
It would soon disappear with the "renovations" that are going on!
In Scotland it is a criminal offence to disturb nesting ospreys, yet they "tag" the chicks in the nest.
Maybe have a dispensation to to that?

It is fine but dull here at the moment.
However, our rain is forecast to arrive at 10 am this morning, and then to rain solidly for 24 hours plus!
Yes, I suspect that the Eastbourne tennis - as well as at the Qualifying rounds at Roehampton - will also be affected.
I have checked the Eastbourne forecast, and it appears identical to ours.
No word from the Wardens at the loch as yet..... they may not even answer?
But I do receive newsletters from them...so I guess a response is a possibility.
Just time for a cup of coffee , than I am away out again shortly - I am going to have my hair trimmed.
I also have some shopping to do....but should be home early afternoon.
Let's hope there will then be some tennis to watch !
Are your muscle aches fully recovered now? or did your wall repairing add to them?!

We no longer have any chimneys!
They were removed many years ago, before we even bought the house (an old Victorian villa) back in the Seventies.
Chimney sweeps remind me of "The Water Babies"!

I would imagine the wardens at the loch will be kept fairly busy most of the time, so you may have to wait on a reply?
In the meantime, why not head to the local library?
Go to the "Osprey" department, then the "unhatched eggs" section, and I am sure you will find the answer!

Gosh I would love 24 hours of rain. 3 times last week thunderstorms were promised and didn't arrive. Today is only 56% chance of rain. Come on, please! Gardening on sand is pretty difficult.

Thanks for enquiring - yes, pretty unlucky indeed, but yet most
'accidents are! Those two long muscles on either side of the spine
must have taken the brunt of the fall and seemingly they control
all other muscles as well, so it's like a knock-on effect - or so they
tried to explain at the hospital in a simplistic way!

We could do with some serious rain here too - so very dry - no proper
lasting rain for weeks and weeks!
Does not stop weeds from growing though!

In France, your previous chimney sweepers would have been held
responsible for your fire! They issue an official certificate which
you need to get any claim from your insurance company in case
of fire damage.

I am home again now for the rest of the day!
The rain was late in coming....with abysmal timing, I had just left the hairdressers when the heavens opened!
My goodness, did it rain there !
But on reaching home....I found it was still dry here!
This often happens , we seem to live in a somewhat rain -free "pocket"!
It is wet now though...and play is also rained off at Eastbourne!
The BBC are showing replays.......
Speaking of lightbulbs....... have you ever been to Ikea?
I find the electrical department there totally incomprehensible!
And I'll swear that the assistants are not much wiser...I am convinced that they go and hide whenever someone is seeking help!
Well, no tennis...so I shall make a start on the crosswords.
