Hello, Malone,
I agree with you regarding "thick" TV's!
That's the kind for me!
And yes, they do seem to be less expensive these days, and much lighter in weight, too.

Good morning, Rusty!
A lovely day - blue skies and sunshine; still mild, although I believe it is to go colder tomorrow.
A nice walk.
Now......the present TV, a Panasonic, sits on its own base.
Both are silver and the TV slots into the shelving unit beneath, which could not be used separately.
Hence the need for a new base on which to stand the new flat screen TV (if /when we get it)
Screen size? I'm not looking for anything larger than 32".
Our present TV screen is 27" (diagonally across) but of course gives a larger impression as it has a silver surround.
I definitely want to be able to record.......but as I already have a Humax Freeview box, I should be able to use this?
I also have a DVD player so will not need to have that built into the TV?
This should make the TV simpler - and cheaper?
Or am I living in "cloud cuckoo land"?
However...... we are no longer going to Currys today now....daughter has phoned to say she will have to collect BB from school as her husband cannot......so wants to reschedule for either Sunday or next Wednesday.
I guess it gives me more time to think...and to research.... !
A pity....I was all geared for the traumatic decision!

Hello, Malone!
Thank you for your input.
It is appreciated.
I had to smile at your requesting a "thick" television!
Very much like my telling the mobile phone salesman that all I wanted my phone to do was "ring"!

Elle, as well as having a Smart TV that we use only in Thick/Thicko mode, we also have a Humax Freeview recorder. They work harmoniously together! We don't have a DVD player,so I can't help with that part.

Good morning, Elle!
Great morning here, but windy.
I believe the Forth Road Bridge is/was closed due to a lorry being blown over.
The TV!
I went into Curry's site and set the parameters to not more than 32 inches screen and it brought up 28 models from different manufacturers.
Highest price £329, cheapest about half that.
I would suggest you stick with a "known" brand.
Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic etc.
I know nothing about Humax boxes so take Malone's advice on them (as well as Red Buttons!)
I have no DVD player either!
As regards the table for it?
Loads to choose from depending on what you want to pay.
Argos will have lots to choose from, not sure about Homebase or B&Q.
But you may want a better quality one than those and if so, Google "TV table" and you should get a selection.
Mine is from Argos quite a few years ago and is perfectly fine.
So, go back to Curry's site and set the parameters on the left hand side about screen size, brand, etc and that "should" make the choice easier.
Your daughter could do the same?
Good luck with the "thick TV" hunt!

Hi, Rusty!
Thank you for all the information!
It is most kind of you to go to all this trouble.
I thought that I would "play" with the parameters on the website before answering you, but I am having difficulty with this...it has a mind of its own and keeps changing what I have set up!
So I will leave it until after I have sent you a reply or you might be waiting till next Christmas to hear back from me!
I have no idea how much I want to spend....I'm going for simplicity and ease of working rather than cost!
I am wondering whether Freeview is installed in each TV set for viewing purposes? - even if not for recording...and if so , whether one can run the TV happily with the additional digibox?
Why is it all so complicated?
I shall take a look at TV tables, too........

Malone, does your TV have Freeview installed internally for viewing purposes, and do you then use your Freeview digibox additionally to that for recording?

Hello, Elle,
There should be a reset button at the top of the parameters section.
I can not help regarding Freeview, (I have Sky) but hopefully Malone will look in and advise you on that.
Or is there a Curry's helpline to phone and ask?
The sales assistant should know, and be well used to folk like us wanting "thick" TV's.
When I looked at Currys site I am sure it told if Freeview was installed with each TV?
A suggestion about tables.
Have a look at Roseland Furniture site.
They appear to have some fine looking (to me!) TV tables?
But of course, you may not like them at all!
Get your daughter involved!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, the Curry's site does state where Freeview is installed within the TV set.
But I just want to know whether having Freeview within the TV for viewing purposes is compatible with also using a Freeview digibox for recording?
If you are following me?

Hello, Elle,
I think I follow, but I have never had Freeview or a Freeview digibox, so I have no advice to give.
I have a Skybox, but I only use it for very simple things.
The answer to your query will be on Google.
Why not Google your problem, or put it on YouTube?

Sorry, Elle, I've been out all day. Our tv does have Freeview built in, but from the very beginning we linked the tv to the Freeview recorder and it's always worked perfectly.
