Welcome, Canary - glad you've joined us. I'll look for your name in future. Have you finished the puzzle? I still have a few to go.

Good morning, solvers. If you need a hint or two, don't hesitate. Without this site and its supporters I don't think many of us - I, for one - would have made much progress.

Good morning dw - I arose at 5.30 am thinking of this. I've got a few more this am, but I'm stuck with just 26ac and 23d. A gentle nudge would be so greatly appreciated.

Hello AJT. 26a Break after ha (no attempt to deride!). The passage becomes a question and the answer is a noun. 23d Break after Dea; the answer is connected to the sea and remember what a previous contributor said about sounds of the numbers.

Thank you so much dw. That's immediately given me 26ac. I had remembered previous remarks about the sounds. Just one now - I'm very grateful to you. After all this, I do hope that it's one of our number that wins.

Finished at last - even winning it couldn't feel better than that!

Well done AJT and everyone else who has finished this puzzle. We can at least all feel like winners. May I also echo the comments already made by yonah and others about the quality of this thread.

I can endorse that and similar comments - it's been a new but pleasing experience working with enthusiasts at a certain level. And so to the next teaser...

I can't believe some of us finished before you, AJT, as it's always the other way around.

It might have been irrtating, frustrating, yet, perhaps, fun, but, whatever it was, it wasn't a crossword. Can any of us look at a sentence again without trying to fit whole words inside it?

At least one member of Mensa had real problems with it, taking four days instead of one, but, as I said, it wasn't a crossword as such.

See you next month.

That's my excuse RobP - it wasn't a crossword. Thanks you, it's been such fun, and this thread has been the best of this Forum.
