I'm stuck on the parsing of 4d.

I think the first three letters are the way a monarch might speak when saying “I’d”

I think a version of this was in a previous Prize and was clued as "Camilla's I'd" or something similar.

Although I might have dreamt that!

I did get that mixed up - it was the way Camilla would pronounce a certain fish, but I forget which one.

I didn’t help myself by putting in UP FRONT for 1d.
Had to Google 12a.

Likewise ianwil. Until I got 8a. Now I have no answer and am not finding this the breeze that others did.

If possible with no spoilers, and assuming my answer is correct, how is the beauty part of 14d parsed?

Hi Rocky, the beauty bit is a four letter word inside the rest (another four letter word, and two single letters).

OK thanks Jono. I did have slightly the wrong word. I thought the definition was a bit off.

The sooner you get 12 and 20 is the key to this. Once they're in it does become a much more straightforward solve.

Very clever of Brendan to pack one grid with so much theme. Very enjoyable though a bit tough to parse some of the clues. I have no idea how 11a works still and haven't fully worked out 5d either.
