Hi Blimeyoreilly,

2d - Very good point and one I hadn't noticed. Both versions of "king" seem to lead to words that fit the definition. For the record, I chose the English one but am now starting to doubt myself.

Very good point, blimey. I went with English and didn’t stop to consider Latin, but both work, I think. It will be interesting to see which solution gets the green tick (I don’t have that option).

Hi Rog, re 25a, having gott the 5th and 7th letters from the crossers, I initially thought the definition might be "London, say".

Oh I see, Bren! Fortunately I got the first letter before the others, otherwise I might have gone down the same rabbit hole.

Hi, Bren and Rog. I feel 2d works better with the Latin as you put it. I just think it's a closer fit for the definition, although a case can certainly be made for your choice. Unfortunate ambiguity.

Also, Bren, like you I wondered if there was some significance to 19 and 24. Perhaps Jono will have some insight. He is usually on top of such references.

Hi Darla,

It's funny you should mention Jono having some insight in reference to 19a and 24a - I thought exactly the same thing:-)

I used the English in 2, thinking it correct due to consistency with a topical and now infamous 4-letter slang (?) variant.

Hi Geeker,

2d - the current political hot potato word you're referring to was my thinking as well.

Brendan, Jono has become quite the historian of cryptic crosswords.
