Lost in admiration for those who have full grid and are discussing end game.
I have almost complete grid, but need hints for 18d and 28a. Also, cannot parse 10a, though I think I know what has to go in.
Hi Eenk
18d. Def is first 4 words. Single letter from final three words, followed by 7 letters meaning giving a name to.
28a. Def is first 3 words. 4 letter stamina followed by 4 letter 'at first'...not quiet (after change).
I have a query.
The word that is changed in order to create the first half of the writer's surname...there are both a single word, and a two-word phrase in the Chambers app that would work here...
Am I the only one to find this or have I gone wrong?
Thanks rhsl. I realised in my sleep what was going on with that one.
My crux now is 32a, nothing fits for me but possibly I have the wrong ending to 19d.
lumen - in 32 the 1st word is the def (as in wine); wordplay is anagram of "scenes" + 1 letter for "in"; then the final word is to be adjusted and from that adjustment only the initial letter is required as the final letter of the answer.
The preamble does not expressly say that the completed grid consists only of real words and phrases. After adjustments to the two rows to create the work and author, one non-word is left. My wife has persuaded me that that too needs adjusting, but I was not entirely convinced.
