OK, had another look and reckon I’ve adjusted the entries…

That leaves the first letter of 24d, will look at it in the morning and hopefully inspiration will strike.

Adeano-I still use the Chambers Dictionary CD installed on my laptop. That has headings Dictionary/Thesaurus/Appendices. Appendices is very useful = Alphabets, Chemical Symbols, wine bottle sizes.... and "Some first names" where: Bertha f (gmc) Bright.
Much quicker than googling, shame that Harraps stopped publishing it. Mine says "suitable for Windows 95" but very seldom do I come across a word in The Listener not present and if I need it I have the hard copy what I won.

I thought this was a beautifully constructed puzzle at just the right level for me. Still puzzled by a couple of wordplays, but not enough to worry me. Thanks Poat

Perhaps I was lucky with my googling. The history of the subject might help

Nicely configured puzzle.

Just one loose end for me:

In the case of the first of the two rows to be adjusted, I see two possibilities, a word and a phrase. Both satisfy the endgame. Should I be taking particular note of the 'or phrases' element in the preamble? It seems right to do so.

I believe only one possibility properly satisfies the whole endgame

I'm finding this very gruelling. About 50% gridfill.
I know the type of adjustments required of course.
Would particularly like help with Seinna Miller (19d) as no word fits with my crossers. I'm assuming Sienna gets adjusted? But after that, no idea.
Any tips for 1a would help me much, as NW is my least populated quadrant. I have 1d.
