Hi geeker (@4).
I agree that 24 doesn’t work. If confirmation is needed, I have found a cocktail advice website (what else?) that specifically says, in its explanation of ‘neat’:
“There is never an additional ingredient in a drink served “neat”. You can not have a Screwdriver served “neat”. That’s not how we use the word.”

Agree that 24a is not right, although the tools in my man cave are quite well organised.

COD is 16a, enjoyed the 'failing to finish' direction, excellent.

Am I right in thinking 20d use of 'key' has Florida in mind?

Yes on 20d, yevrah. Or Langerhans.

I knew 24a was off in US parlance. I'm afraid rog's post has a spoiler, though...something I've occasionally slipped on.

Can anyone share some pointers on 16d and 18d? Also confused as to the Warren part of the parsing of 17d. Thank you!

Tom 57 - 16d I think it is anag of Vera with a word for mature years meaning norm.

16d: defn is ‘norm’ (the capitalisation is a misdirection)
18d: defn is ‘sir’. It’s a hidden insertion.

Nunoesque: I think it’s a straight insertion of VERA (no anagram).
